the tool
paste a link to a video or a track and get the file. that's the whole thing. there's a second tab that remuxes a file you already have, using the same ffmpeg in the browser.
supported: youtube, twitter / x, instagram, tiktok, soundcloud, dailymotion, facebook, pinterest, snapchat, bluesky, loom, streamable. the pages at the bottom cover the ones people ask about.
what doesn't work
some sites don't work at all:
- reddit and bilibili block the vpn exit grab downloads through, so they stay off until that gets fixed.
- twitch and vimeo are broken upstream in the extractor grab falls back on and there's nothing to fix on this end.
- anything behind a login is out. grab has no account anywhere and it won't pretend to be you.
- drm-protected streams can't be downloaded and that isn't going to change.
who pays for this
it runs on one box in a house and the person who built it pays the bill. there's a paid tier and a ko-fi link and both go towards that bill, but neither one unlocks downloading. that's free and it stays free.
what grab keeps
you don't need an account to download anything.
nothing you fetch gets written to disk on the server. direct downloads never touch it and tunneled ones just pass through and get dropped. grab doesn't keep a history of what you downloaded and it doesn't run analytics. nothing about you is sold to anyone.

questions
do i need an account to download?
no. that's only for the paid tier.
do you keep the files?
no. nothing gets written to the disk on the server. direct downloads don't pass through it at all and tunneled ones get thrown away as they're delivered. there's no library of what anyone downloaded.
do you log what i download?
there's no per-user history. the server keeps normal operational logs like every server does but those aren't a record of who fetched what.
why is my file lower quality than the site showed?
grab asks for 1080p and steps down through 720p, 480p, 360p and 240p depending on what the source has. most of the time the site re-encoded it on upload and the ceiling was already low before grab got to it.
can it download a whole playlist or channel?
no, one link gets you one item. bulk fetching is what gets a small self-hosted service ip-blocked for everyone using it.
is any of this legal?
keeping a copy of something you're allowed to keep is legal in most places but redistributing someone else's work isn't. grab hands you a file and that's all it does. it doesn't give you any rights to it.
